Goals of the Project

Artists at work

The mural project has been initiated as a part of the "Urban Share Community Gardening Project" of the organization "WELCOME - a communal response to poverty". The mural is located at a site owned by the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Oakland / San Francisco and has been redesigned as a community garden.

Community Gardening means to grow fruits and vegetables together in community gardens to strengthen the community and to provide members of the community that are in need with the results of this work. The artwork supports the positive atmosphere while working in the garden and transforms these gardens into unique retreats in urban spaces.

Project Goals in Detail:

  • Design the main wall behind the garden
  • Generate awareness for community gardening projects
  • Increase the quality of life in the neighborhood through art
  • Foster active practice of creative arts with the participants
